Rye played Hastings in the Qualifying final at Somerville, and lost.
Rye’s final game of the home-and-away season was played at Sorrento on a sunny late August Saturday afternoon. That was about as good as it got for Rye, with the Sorra’s running away with a comfortable victory over Rye. Rye’s inaccurate first quarter kicking saw the game put well in Sorrento’s favour at quarter time, with Rye having one more scoring shot at the end of the game but still losing by 44 points.

Rye’s seniors turned around their previous week’s result to record a resounding win against the Dromana Tigers, who were sitting one place behind Rye in 3rd position on the ladder. The team was switched on and looked a completely different outfit.

Today’s game at Baxter Park, Baxter saw Rye’s senior team resoundingly beaten by the Frankston Bombers.

Rye Football Club’s senior team returned to winning ways against Cribb Point today at a wet RJ Rowley Reserve in Rye.

Rye’s winning ways came to an end against Tyabb at the Yabbies’ home ground at Tyabb. Rye was outplayed by a vastly more determined team, was second to every contest and looked generally lethargic.

Today’s game against Rosebud resulted in an almighty flogging for Rosebud … the 3 goals they kicked in the last quarter saw Rye win by only 15 goals, not by 18 goals.

Rye’s seniors came from behind at three quarter time to beat Red Hill – final scores Rye 16-13-109 def. Red Hill 11-9-75. This leaves Rye unbeaten and on top of the league ladder, going into next week’s bye. The bye has come at a good time for the increasing number of injured players to recuperate in the run up to the finals.
Captain Rhett Sutton played a blinder today, including two captains goals in the last quarter – both from in excess of 50m from goal – which turned the tide of the game to Rye’s favour.

Rye’s senior footballers continued their winning ways, toppling Hastings at today’s game played at RJ Rowley Reserve at Rye. Hastings shot out to an early lead in the first quarter, but Rye reeled them back in, to take out the game 12-11-83 v 11-14-78.
