Rye Football Club v Sorrento

Rye’s final game of the home-and-away season was played at Sorrento on a sunny late August Saturday afternoon. That was about as good as it got for Rye, with the Sorra’s running away with a comfortable victory over Rye. Rye’s inaccurate first quarter kicking saw the game put well in Sorrento’s favour at quarter time, with Rye having one more scoring shot at the end of the game but still losing by 44 points.

Final scores Sorrento 20.7-127 def Rye 11-17.83

Rye Football Club v Tyabb

Rye’s winning ways came to an end against Tyabb at the Yabbies’ home ground at Tyabb. Rye was outplayed by a vastly more determined team, was second to every contest and looked generally lethargic.

Rye Football Club v Rosebud

Rye's Mark Chaffey

Today’s game against Rosebud resulted in an almighty flogging for Rosebud … the 3 goals they kicked in the last quarter saw Rye win by only 15 goals, not by 18 goals.

Suffice it to say, the Rye boys were very happy …

… but the same certainly can’t be said for Rosebud’s coach Mark Hustwaite:

Rye Football Club v Red Hill

Rye’s seniors came from behind at three quarter time to beat Red Hill – final scores Rye 16-13-109 def. Red Hill 11-9-75. This leaves Rye unbeaten and on top of the league ladder, going into next week’s bye. The bye has come at a good time for the increasing number of injured players to recuperate in the run up to the finals.

Captain Rhett Sutton played a blinder today, including two captains goals in the last quarter – both from in excess of 50m from goal – which turned the tide of the game to Rye’s favour.
